Ever since the 17th century the Old Square has been a lively meeting and shopping place. The Old Square that we see today gives us an idea of how Ljungby was in the 19th century.
A number of Ljungby’s oldest houses can be found here, including Eskilsgård - a typical Småland manor house from the beginning of the 19th century. In front of Eskilsgård in1857 a young teenage girl was discovered and she eventually became the world famous opera star Christina Nilsson Casa di Miranda.
Today the old buildings contain a museum, restaurants and cafés, handicraft stores and a spa. During the summer popular flea markets are arranged on the cobblestone square.
